Any pet parent knows that for harmony in the home, you need a bed that will soothe and cradle a frazzled, anxious or dog-tired pooch. And with Furhaven’s Plush Orthopedic Sofa you get a full-on doggy chaise longue designed for ultimate comfort and support. This deluxe model from one of the US’s leading pet bed manufacturers is certainly not the cheapest you can buy, but when it comes to design, overall you do get what you pay for. But a word to the wise, this isn’t a ‘tuck away in the corner’ dog bed as it is a substantial sofa-style sleeper that will take up a bit of room. However, we do like the L-shape design which means it can fit easily in most rooms. And the dual bolsters are a nice touch, giving extra support when your dog is in his snooze zone or when he wants to burrow down.

The foam mattress base has an ergonomic ‘egg crate’ design for improved orthopedic support, although we note it’s not memory foam so won’t tailor itself to the shape of your pet. It does, however, give excellent support, even for larger dogs and works to reduce pressure on their back, neck and sensitive points. And the low design makes it a good choice for pets with limited mobility.

The covering for the main bed is made from a lovely, plush faux fur your pup will love, while the base and bolsters are made from soft touch micro-suede. It’s pleasing to report that reviewers have found both pretty easy to clean and the removable bed cover is machine washable too. And if aesthetics is a concern, then the Furhaven sofa comes in a choice of four muted, house-friendly colors, with smaller sizes available for smaller dog breeds.

You do have to be a little patient at first as the mattress comes packed compressed and can take a few days to bounce into its intended shape. And there is no waterproof lining so you may need to pop the bed on a floor mat for a little extra protection for your carpet.

In short, while the Furhaven Pet Plush Orthopedic Sofa may not be durable enough for heavy chewers or scratchers, this is a lux sofa-style bed for your sleepy pooch that nicely supports and keeps them cozy. And it is smart and low-key enough to look good in any dog-loving home.
