For a lot of people living in the United States, one of the biggest downsides to traveling is having to leave your pets behind at home. It doesn’t matter if you leave them with a pet-sitter or if you leave them with your family, it will almost always be a sad experience. It’s a good thing there is no longer a need to worry, as a good number of popular hotel chains around the country have lightened their stance on bringing your pets along. Here are some of the best pet-friendly hotel chains in the United States.
The Four Seasons Hotel and Resort
The first, and possibly most popular, option to bring your pet along on a trip is the Four Seasons Hotel and Resort chain. They usually accept smaller cats and dogs, just as long as they don’t weigh more than 25 pounds. The pet-friendly rooms in the Four Seasons feature amenities such as small beds, water and food bowls, and even absorbent pet pads. Your pet is sure to be comfortable staying at a Four Seasons hotel! It will be just as much as a vacation for them as it will be for you.
The concierge at Four Seasons hotels also aim to please pet owners. Just ask and they’ll give you directions to the nearest pet-friendly attractions, so you could have a good time with your pooch or with your cat even if you’re far away from home. You should however, bring some extra cash on you if you plan to bring your pet to the Four Seasons, as they tend to charge extra for this option. Nevertheless, a lot of pet owners consider this premium worth it to spend a relaxing holiday together with their pooches or their feline friends.
Best Western
Up next on the list of the best pet-friendly hotel chains in the US are Best Western hotels. Some would even go as far as to argue that owners among the hotel chains on this list Best Western provides the best experience for both the pets and their owners. Unlike the other hotels featured on this list, they don’t charge a large premium in order to avail of pet-friendly amenities. It only costs around $30 per day to have your pet stay with you at a Best Western establishment. However, some branches may require visitors to pay a damage deposit of at least $150. No need to worry much though, as this amount is refundable upon checking out of the hotel.
Best Western caters mostly to dog lovers and allows them to bring pooches of up to 80 pounds. Most of their properties also allow people to bring other animals such as cats and birds, or even monkeys as well as snakes. However, guests bringing in pets other than dogs are only allowed at the discretion of each branch and requires prior approval. Best Western recommends that guests call the branch they wish to stay at if they have questions about their policies and to see if there are any pet-friendly rooms available on their booked dates.
La Quinta Inns and Suites
On the more affordable side of the spectrum, there is La Quinta Inns and Suites. This is, again, one of the more popular options on the list due to its affordability – your pets get to stay in the room with you for only $40 a week. They even give complimentary treats to your furry travel companions. La Quinta hotels allow their guests to bring up to two pets with them – cats or dogs weighing up to 75 pounds – in each rented room. In their over 800 locations in the United States, only a handful of La Quinta hotels don’t allow pets.
If the La Quinta branch that you plan to stay at does allow you to bring your pets with you, they have a rule that you must be present with your pet at all times, especially during housekeeping. You should also keep your pets on a leash or in a carrier when outside the room. Other than that, there aren’t actually many pet-related restrictions at La Quinta. If you do have any questions; however, it is always best to get in contact with the particular branch you are planning to stay in for your trip to learn about their policy on bringing pets.
Hotel Indigo
If you’re looking for your dogs to get pampered in the same way that you plan to be on your next holiday, then maybe you should give Hotel Indigo establishments a try. All of the over three dozen branches of Hotel Indigo treat dogs like royalty every time they come to visit. There are even resident dogs in some branches including the ones in Baton Rouge and Atlanta Midtown. Each of them is welcomed with special treats as well as their own doggie beds for them to lounge around and relax in.
What’s even better is that it only costs around $50 for your lovely pooch to be spoiled at Hotel Indigo – a small price to pay for the comfort of man’s best friend. However, only one dog is permitted per guest, per room. Pets are also not allowed inside the restaurant or the pool area, for obvious reasons. Pets must be in their crate when not with their owners, as housekeeping will not enter the room if they are not. They must also be on their leash when on the hotel’s premises. Even with those rules, a lot of pet owners prefer to stay at Hotel Indigo.
Red Roof Inns
Red Roof Inns are also a popular choice for pet owners in the United States. Out of their over 360 branches, only three don’t allow pets. This is not because they don’t want to, but because of rather strict city ordinances. Service animals could also stay in most of Red Roof’s locations, granted that they have a specific reason to be with their owners. Red Roof only has a few simple rules such as owners having to pick up after their pets and keeping them under their watchful eye at all times. Pets also can’t be left alone in a Red Roof establishment.
If the Red Roof branch you are planning to stay in does allow pets; however, you will be pleasantly surprised. This is because they actually allow the pets to stay with their owners in the same room for free. No additional charges at all. They just need to be present with their owners while checking in at the front desk so they can be declared. There are not a lot of pet amenities available, but you don’t have to pay a single cent more to bring your pet. Other than that, you’ll be sure to enjoy your stay with your pet at the Red Roof Inn.
Kimpton Hotels
Kimpton Hotels don’t have as many properties compared to the other establishments. However, what they lack in branching out, they more than make up for in knowing how to treat their guest’s pets right. Most Kimpton hotels allow any kind of pet to stay with their owners for no extra charge at all. No deposit is required for your pet to stay with you either. This is as long as they won’t be too much of a disturbance to the other guests staying there. Even better, there are no pet size and weight limits at Kimpton branches.
Kimpton Hotels treat pets to plush beds, food and water bowls, loaners, mats, and even toys, which are all free of charge as well. They also give you door hangers that alert other guests that you have a pet with you. You could also ask the Kimpton concierge as well as the other people who work there for their recommendations for nearby pet-friendly spots such as restaurants, parks, and groomers. However, it is a good idea to inquire about a branch’s pet policies first, as some of them may be different from others even if by just a little bit.
Fairmont Hotels and Resorts
Up next on this list of pet-friendly hotel chains in the U.S. is Fairmont Hotels and Resorts. This is another one for all the cat and dog lovers out there, as a portion of the fees collected from their pet policies are donated to local institutions that care for less fortunate animals. The Fairmont Washington branch in Georgetown even lets pets stay with their owners in guestrooms free of charge. Not only that, but when a pet stays over in that particular Fairmont branch, the hotel will donate $25 to an organization that cares for seeing-eye dogs.
The pet policies at the different Fairmont establishments differ from one another, so it would be best to check out their website or give them a call to see if your pet is a fit. Some branches have a weight limit, while others don’t. There are branches that require guests to pay a deposit to bring their pets along, while there are also those that don’t. If your four-legged companion does fit into the policy of the branch you’re looking into, then you could rest assured that both of you will have a splendid time.
Choice Hotels
Choice Hotels probably boasts the most establishments out of any of the chains featured on this list. With Comfort Inn, Clarion, MainStay Suites, Suburban, and many more being under the Choice Hotels chain, it’s no wonder they have over 2,500 pet-friendly locations. If you’re having trouble looking for a hotel that caters to animals, then you better check if the city you’re visiting has a Choice hotel nearby. Chances are good that if you find a Choice-associated hotel it can accommodate your pets, aside from being nearby.
However, similar to a lot of the hotel chains we have already mentioned here, pet policies are different from one branch to the other. Even though they pride themselves in being pet-friendly, there is still a chance that your pet may not fit into a certain branch’s pet policies. This is why it’s better to call ahead of time to check if you can bring your pet with you in your room.
Hyatt Hotels
For a memorable pampering experience for yourself as well as for your pet, you may want to go to a Hyatt hotel. Not all of their branches are pet-friendly, but the ones that are surely know how to treat an animal companion right. Some branches have resident dogs, while other branches have a “pet fee” that is actually donated in its entirety to the PAWS animal shelter that helps lonely dogs find a better home. Other Hyatt branches give out free sets of toys and a bunch of gourmet treats.
For example, at the Hyatt Centric South Beach in Miami, there is a rooftop dog park that features areas with shade as well as water bowls and dog toys. At the same Hyatt hotel, dog lovers can enjoy a “Wooftini” or a “Bark Collins” in the bar at the hotel lobby. On the other hand, the Manchester Grand Hyatt in San Diego offers a special menu just for dogs at their in-house restaurant. This menu includes their “Surf & T-arf” for the main course as well as Sally’s Famous “Pupcakes” for that sweet ending to any meal.
Loews Hotels and Resorts
Last, but certainly not the least, is Loews Hotels and Resorts. For starters, they have a program called Loews Loves Pets. With this program, pets receive treats, bowls, and place mats right as they check in with their owners. Loews hotels also provide toys, pet beds, and litter boxes upon request. They also give out “pet-in-room” signs that alert other guests that you are staying with a furry companion.
Loews hotels and resorts feature gourmet room service menus for cats and dogs to make sure they never go hungry during their stay. The staff at Loews can also recommend nearby pet-friendly establishments to make sure that your pet enjoys your trip just as much as you do. They can point you to the best parks and cafes in town that cater to pets. They can even point you to the direction of the best groomers and pet-sitters in the area.
